It's Swinging at Chef Geoff's Jazz Brunch, Downtown DC

As you will see from Ann's review, after scouring the city for a jazz brunch that actually has live jazz music, we found it at Chef Geoff's on 13th between E and F.  The place was not very hopping, but we had a good time (like always) and good food.

Ann's Review:
FINALLY we found a jazz brunch that actually included live jazz.  I believe the act at Chef Geoff’s this Sunday would be what our friend Sara calls “policy jazz.”  Guys who look like they work at GSA or OMB during the day and then “swing” at their gigs in DC bars at night. They forget to bring evening attire though and end up coming in khakis and a white button down. I know, I know, it is not a fashion show it is music, and these guys were actually quite good musicians and pretty easy on the eyes, except for the sax player’s 5 point harness, that really seemed unnecessary....

OK – to the important part.  The ladies were not very enthusiastic about Chef Geoff’s and I have not been impressed by their lunches in the past, but was lured there by the jazz!!  I had excellent service form the bartender when I arrived and she talked me into the “happy hour beer” which was like a gallon
(note: all day Saturday and Sunday is HH)

The menu has  a $25 set brunch that includes coffee, juice, bloody mary or mimosa, fruit plate, sweet rolls and then your choice of entrée. This is actually a very good deal as the servings are pretty big and were generally very good!  Dana, Erica and I liked the Sunday Scramble w/spinach, mushroom and cheese and the rosemary roasted tomatoes!  We had no problem with the egg white substitute and the fruit plate alone was excellent!  The only slight disappointment was the Texas scramble, billed as a salad with beans, quacamole, egg and tortillas, but was presented more, as Allison put it, “...like egg nachos.”  Tiffany did make an eclectic nacho chip sculpture not unlike the leaning Tower of Pisa...

Overall a pretty solid brunch for its cost and the bloody mary’s were good and the soda water was FREE, because it is really just WATER...

The food sounds interesting if nothing else - and as you say, it's about the jazz. Thanks for the review!
