Poste-brunch goodness

After our brunch at Axis, some people decided to be productive and run errands to get caught up before their week started, but that's not really my style nor is it Kevin's, so we decided to continue to enjoy our Sunday outside in the courtyard at Poste.   Poste, is a great little hotel restaurant located inside Kimpton's stylish Hotel Monaco in Chinatown.  When we arrived around 1:30 the place was a ghost town and at first we weren't even sure if we could sit out and indulge, since the patio tables were still covered with the remains from what appeared to be their brunch rush.

Kevin got the all-clear from the bartender that he would serve us, but since there was no one working outside (as apparent by the dirty dishes still covering all of the tables) we would have to go inside to order our drinks, which wasn't half as annoying as the ridiculous journey to the restrooms which were buried deep inside the hotel.

The mojitos were KILLER!  After about three of their pricey ($11), but worth the cost mojitos, we learned the secret of their yumminess, the bartender had actually learned how to make them from his Cuban grandfather - no joke!   Unfortunately, at around 4, shifts changed and the new bartender did NOT have a Cuban grandfather, so we switched to Sangrias.  The fruit tasted uber-fermented and I recommend you stick to the mojitos from the Cuban descendent.  We should have taken the shift change as our sign to leave, but we were 3 mojitos and a few sangrias down, so the place could have caught fire and we would have still been chillin'.     By this time, we had moved inside because as the sun started to descend and got over the edge of the buildings, the courtyard started getting a little chilly.  The inside was funky modern decor - also, deader than a doornail - and I definitely want to go back and try dinner sometime.   At some point I had an Irish Coffee (my wake-up drink) and I can't remember if we had any appetizers, but I do remember a European guy eating french-fries that looked delicious (the fries and the man).

I have also heard from friends that Poste has a great happy hour, so overall, I am going to say Poste should not be an afterthought and should get on everyone's "must visit" lists!

Thanks Emily!  We have not been to Eventide yet, but will be sure to try it.  We went to Harry's Tap Room in Clarendon in January and I am ashamed to say that I have yet to post that review!  How embarrassing. I don't know why I procrastinate so.   I also have to post a revisit review from the Heights in Columbia Heights.    One of these days I'll get on top of it!
