The very first brunch...
So, here is the first email our fearless leader Ann sent out, announcing to all that 2007 would be the "Year of the Brunch"...and thank god for that! Asylum ended up being chosen out of this email, but Bourbon would be the next and Reeff followed a few weeks later. Notice there is a "boycott" on here...Creme on U Street - Ann had a horrible experience there! They created her "test" - she orders club soda now at every restaurant we go to in order to see how much the charge...you will see this updated in her various emails. Also, Utopia does not have a Jazz brunch, we went there about a month ago. You will see that post later.

****2007 “The Year of the BRUNCH”**********
I have decided that I love brunch and want to make this a habit on Sundays. I have been scoping out places and have started a list of places I want to try. My idea is that starting on 1/28 I will plan a brunch. (or invite one of you to!) and as long as one other person comes with, I am doing it. I also found a pretty good blog about DC Restaurants:
http://amandamc.blogspot.com/
Here are my ideas for 1/28 brunch, any takers?
Bourbon – I really like the laid back vibe in there and I have had great service the last 2 times (ok, the only 2 times) I have been there.
Asylum – Might be gross as they are pretty divey at night, but a lot of people tell me their brunch is great, especially if you are a vegetarian.... If we walk in and it smells like beer we can go over to:
The Reef – People say the food is good here so I am willing to try. I like sitting on the roof.
I also discovered a little guide to the champagne brunch locations, which I am also willing to try.....”rolling bloody mary cart” anyone???!!!
At the pretty, conservatory-like Colonnade in the Fairmont Hotel (2401 M St. NW; 202-457-5000), the brunch buffet is unusually wide-ranging and attractive, and though it may seem a little pricey at $60, the price includes all-you-can-drink Taittinger champagne and romantic piano music (not to mention a chocolate fondue fountain).
Jazz brunch at Seasons restaurant in the Four Seasons Hotel is one of Washington's most famous, a staple of tour books, and also includes all-you-can-drink, albeit sparkling wine rather than champagne, for $64 (2800 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; 202-944-2000). The Old World-elegant Willard Room at the Willard InterContinental Hotel (14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW; 202-638-9100) puts its money into all-American high-end surf and turf and all-you-can-drink American sparkling wine for $75; it also has a rolling tableside bloody mary cart. The Raj-elegant Bombay Club (815 Connecticut Ave. NW; 202-659-3727) includes unlimited sparkling wine with its $20 buffet.
At U-topia (1418 U St. NW; 202-483-7669), a glass of sparkling wine, a mimosa or a bloody mary during the jazz brunch will set you back only a buck. At the Sign of the Whale (1825 M St. NW; 202-785-1110), the make-your-own bloody mary bar is all-you-can-drink for $9.95 -- more than most of the entrees.
BOYCOTT – Crème on U Street. Everyone raves about it and people line up outside on Sunday BUT, the service is not good and they charged me $4.00, yes FOUR DOLLARS, for a glass of club soda. (A bloody Mary is $5). I am outraged.
